2015’s Top-Ranked Western Ski Resorts Ranks Telluride #4

Skiing Magazine just posted it’s annual list of the 2015 Top Ranked Western Ski Resorts. The publication ranked Telluride #4, right behind Whistler, Deer Valley & Sun Valley. The article alluded to the string of accolades the Telluride Ski Resort has collected over the past few years from major ski publications.

Just last week Bustle.com posted an article ranking Telluride the #1 in it’s “10 Small Cities to Visit in 2015 That Should Absolutely Be on Your Travel Bucket List“. In December we enjoyed a string of press as National Geographic included Telluride in it’s “World’s 25 Best Ski Towns“. The biggest story of the past few months was Conde Nast readers voting Telluride the #1 ski resort in North America, for the 3rd year in a row!!

There are many things that set the Telluride experience apart from other ski areas in North America. The insane, dramatic beauty of Telluride town is the most striking feature, followed by friendly, colorful locals, a distinct lack of pretense, and some of the most diverse, lift accessed ski terrain in the country. But don’t be fooled into thinking Telluride is just for hard core skiers – we have some of the most extensive, pleasant, well groomed blue & green runs of any ski resort in North America.

Back to the Skiing Magazine piece, Telluride local Rob Story sums up our tiny town with the following quote:

“We don’t want to take undue credit, but following years of elite rankings in SKI’s Resort Guide Scenery category—including No. 1 yet again this year—Telluride has circled back to the motto it brandished in the 1990s: “The Most Beautiful Place You’ll Ever Ski.” Coincidence? You be the judge. Or let the reader who raves, “The most scenic place in North America,” make the call. The resort also boasts a No. 1 rank in Character thanks to the town’s National Historic District status. The mountain’s vertical, meanwhile, is gobsmacking: a thigh-melting 3,845 feet, and you can bump that up to 4,425 feet if you choose to hike up 13,320 foot Palmyra Peak (its slopes are patrolled)”. —Rob Story
