Get Your Drink On! Telluride Best Happy Hours.

Right around this time last year I wrote a blog post with some ideas for happy hour in Telluride. Well, times change quickly in ski towns! There are some new additions that I want to add to the list for the upcoming ski season as well as reiterating some solid ‘oldies but goodies’. If the snowstorm we just experienced is anything to go by, it’s going to be an incredible winter season with plenty of post pow ski celebrations to be had!!

Telluride Town:

1. OAK

OAK is scoring the #1 spot on my list this year for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s the first establishment you hit as you click out of your skis at the base of Chair 8 & the gondola. Robbie & his team have been at this game for a long time. They know your name, they make you feel like family, and you can rub shoulders with hard core Telluride skiing locals & maybe get the scoop on what’s skiing best in the backcountry.

2. The Cosmopolitan

If you like to apres in style, take a left as you jump of the gondola and you will immediately see The Cosmopolitan. In past years the ‘Comso’ has put on one of the best deals in town. $5 cosmos & half price ‘special’ sushi rolls. I am assuming (and hoping) this winter season will be no different!

3. The New Sheridan Bar

A Telluride classic, located right on Main Street, the New Sheridan Bar is one of the oldest bars in the west. Prop yourself up at the 120 year old, hand carved, mahogany bar and enjoy a warming whiskey, or your favorite brew.

4. The Last Dollar Salloon (aka ‘The Buck’)

Another Telluride institution. Definitely a no frills experience, but your best chance of meeting colorful locals & busting out your favorite tunes on the juke box.

5. There bar

This funky west end bar makes you feel more like you are in Brooklyn, NY than Telluride. Delicious & deceptively potent cocktails (my fave is the ‘Grapefruit’) are served up alongside tasty bites such as crisp duck steamed buns, jerk salmon lettuce wraps & fried brussel sprouts. 2 cocktail rule strongly advised.

6. Honga’s Lotus Petal

It’s pretty hard to go past the happy hour special at Honga’s – a mojito & a ‘special’ roll for $12.

7. Flora Dora Saloon

This longtime Telluride establishment is casual & cosy, and if you can find a spot at the bar there are some good specials to be had. In the past they have done a great burger special if you sit at the bar for $10. Let’s hope we see that special again this winter!!

8. Allred’s

A trip to Telluride wouldn’t be complete without a drink at Allred’s bar. Perched high up on San Sophia Ridge, with breathtaking views of Ajax Peak & the Telluride box canyon below, a drink at Allred’s is an absolute must.

I also want to give a shout out to 2 new entries on the bar & dining scene this winter. The Alpinist & The Goat opened at the end of the summer & although I have not been there myself, it looks to have some promising happy hour specials running this winter. There is also a new pizza spot opening on the corner of Colorado & South Pie Street, High Pie Pizzeria & Taproom. I’m super excited about this new offering, as it promises to be a great kid friendly option with lots of space, organic, healthy ingredients. I look forward to visiting both new spots asap & promise to deliver more details when I do!

Mountain Village:

1. Smak Bar

One of my absolute favorite spots in Mountain Village. They serve up the best truffle fries & the most impressive Bloody Mary (complete with mini burger atop) in Telluride.

2. Tomboy Tavern

Completely refurbished (and renamed) in 2012, the stylish Tomboy Tavern is cranking out drinks & burgers 7 days a week. With a prime location at the base of Chair 4, this spot is hard not to fall into at some point during your Telluride visit.

3. Lumiere Little Bar

A great little spot located in the lovely Lumiere Hotel (right behind the Inn At Lost Creek at the base of Chair 4). To quote from their website:

The little bar at lumière in Mountain Village Telluride features sushi, tapas, lite bites and signature cocktails in an ultra chic, contemporary and hip mountain setting. Open daily from 2pm – 8pm each week from Thanksgiving through beginning of April.
