Every year in May, the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival premieres some of the most thought provoking, soul searching, and often heart- rendering films covering a range of social, political, environmental and adventure inspired topics. There is a different ‘Moving Mountain’s Symposium’ theme each year, and the theme for 2014 is ‘Wilderness’. The selection of this year’s theme was a nod to the 50 year anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed this Act into law, establishing American wilderness as “an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.”
Here in Telluride, we live tucked in the mountains, beside the river and amongst the trees. Appreciation of wilderness is something that resonates with those who live here, and those who visit marvel at the areas natural beauty.
