Telluride has three grocery stores. Total. There is no City Market and no Walmart within about 65 miles. The nearest one is in Montrose, which is roughly an hour and fifteen minutes of mountain driving away. Whatever mental image you have of "popping out for a few things," recalibrate it now.
The good news: those three stores are genuinely decent, they are all open 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, and there are now several ways to arrive at a rental that is already stocked so you never set foot in one. Including, as it happens, us.
Grocery Stores in Telluride and Mountain Village
Clark's Market (Town of Telluride)

The read: The biggest and best-stocked option in town, though "big" is relative in a box canyon. Full produce, deli, bakery, butcher, and a hot bar that is quietly one of the better value lunches in Telluride. Locally beloved staff.
Location is the real selling point. If you are staying on the west end of town at the Viking Lodge, Telluride Lodge, Lulu City, or Cimarron Lodge, you can walk here in a few minutes. There is also plenty of parking, which in Telluride counts as a feature.
The Village Market (Mountain Village)

The read: The largest grocery store in the entire area and a full-service operation. Good produce, a hot and salad bar in the back with seating up front, a taco and coffee counter, fresh sushi, and a liquor store attached so you can knock out beer and wine in the same trip.
Getting there without a car: the market sits right at a gondola station, so from the Mountain Village core you ride over for free. There is also free parking behind the building, which makes it a smart place to leave the car and gondola into town for the day. If you are staying elsewhere in Mountain Village and it is too far to walk, call Dial-A-Ride at (970) 728-8888 and they will pick you up and drop you at the store, free of charge.
The Market at Telluride (Downtown)

The read: The smallest of the three and the most central, right in the heart of downtown. This is your basics-and-snacks store: milk, coffee, eggs, wine, the thing you forgot. Convenient enough that you will pay a premium for it. Perfect for a top-up run, not for a full week's shop.
Note: this store was previously known as The Village Market, and the Mountain Village store now carries that name. If you ask a local for "the Village Market" while standing downtown, you may get pointed across the canyon. Use the current names above.

Over the Moon Fine Foods

The read: Distinctly European, thoroughly charming, and the correct answer whenever you need to look like you have your life together. Serious cheese, cured meats, chocolate, bread, and thoughtfully chosen gifts. Owner-run with real expertise behind the counter.
The move: call ahead and order a cheese plate to go. They will put it together beautifully within a couple of hours, and you will look like a genius when your group rolls in from the mountain. Just remember the early close and the Sunday closure, which catch visitors out constantly.
Telluride Farmers Market (Summer Only)
Not a ski season option, but worth knowing for a return trip. The Telluride Farmers Market runs Fridays on South Oak Street through the summer, with produce, pasture-raised meats, eggs, cheese, and baked goods all sourced within 100 miles.
Liquor Stores in Telluride
Colorado sells full-strength beer, wine, and spirits at dedicated liquor stores, and Telluride has three good ones in town plus the one attached to The Village Market in Mountain Village.

Here is the thing about a ski trip. You land in Montrose, drive an hour and change through the mountains, get to your condo at 4:30 p.m., and the absolute last thing anyone in your group wants to do is go grocery shopping. Then you do it anyway, badly, hungry, and it costs $340.

An online-first option with a straightforward shopping platform, including photos of products, which makes ordering from a plane far easier. Restaurant Food Delivery in Telluride
Yes, the apps work here. DoorDash and Uber Eats both cover Telluride and Mountain Village, and you can get dinner delivered to your condo.
Now the honest caveats, because we would rather you know:
- The restaurant selection is thin compared to a city. This is a town of a few thousand people. Expect a modest list, not endless scrolling.
- Driver availability is genuinely inconsistent, especially late, during shoulder season, and in bad weather. A snowy Tuesday in April is not a guaranteed delivery night.
- Calling the restaurant directly for takeout is often faster and cheaper, and many Telluride spots will have your order ready in 20 minutes. Our Telluride dining guide has the numbers.
Our practical advice: treat delivery as a nice-to-have, not the plan. Groceries plus one or two takeout nights is the setup that actually works here.
Stock Up on the Drive In
If you are renting a car, shopping en route is the single biggest money-saver of your trip. Resort pricing is real.
- Montrose (about 65 miles, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes): Your best option by far if flying into Montrose Regional. City Market has two locations, at 16400 S Townsend Ave, (970) 240-3236, and 128 S Townsend Ave, (970) 249-3405, both open 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily. The Walmart Supercenter at 16750 S Townsend Ave, (970) 249-7544, keeps the same hours.
- Ridgway (roughly midway from Montrose): The Market at Ridgway, 490 Sherman St, (970) 626-5811, daily 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A good stretch-your-legs stop with a surprisingly solid deli.
- Norwood (if you are coming from the west or Utah): Clark's Market, 1435 Grand Ave, (970) 327-4211, daily 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Five Local Rules That Will Save You Grief
- Bring reusable bags. Plastic bags are banned in Telluride and you pay for paper at checkout. We provide reusable bags to our guests, so grab a few on your way out the door.
- Do not shop between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. in ski season. Everyone comes off the mountain at once and heads straight to Clark's. Shop in the morning, or send one person at 7:00 p.m.
- Holiday weeks are a different sport. Christmas through New Year's and Presidents' Day weekend clear shelves fast. If you need something specific for a holiday meal, buy it early in your stay or have it delivered.
- Use the free transit. The Galloping Goose bus loops through town past Clark's for free. The gondola runs to The Village Market for free, 6:30 a.m. to midnight, from November 20, 2026 through April 4, 2027. In Mountain Village, Dial-A-Ride will drive you to the store at no cost.
- Cook more than you think you will. Telluride restaurants are excellent and expensive, and the good ones need reservations. A rental with a real kitchen plus two or three nights out is the formula that keeps a week here enjoyable rather than eye-watering.
