There are two kinds of Telluride mornings.
The first involves an alarm, a burrito consumed at speed, and a genuine belief that you will make first chair. The second involves waking up at 9:40, admitting defeat, and going to find a mimosa and something with hollandaise on it.
Both are correct. Both are covered below. Every spot here has been checked for current hours, address, and phone number, because there is a specific flavor of vacation despair that comes from standing outside a locked door in ski boots at 7:15 a.m.

The order: Grab-and-go case, breakfast burritos, hot bagel and croissant sandwiches, and a bakery case that will absolutely derail your plans.
A genuine Telluride institution, in a little cabin on Fir Street, running for decades. It is fast, it is open early, and the pastry case is dangerous. Local intel: two-for-one donuts daily after 2:00 p.m. File that away for the afternoon.
The Pick

The order: Hand-rolled breakfast burritos and build-your-own bowls with eggs done properly.
Quietly one of the best value breakfasts in the whole valley, and beloved by people who eat here repeatedly in a single trip. Excellent vegetarian and vegan options, including a Beyond sausage that converts skeptics. Ask about the house sauces and salsas. The chipotle aioli has a following.
Tracks Cafe & Bar
Where: 670 Mountain Village Blvd #9520, Mountain Village

Hours: Daily, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The order: Bagels, breakfast sandwiches, bowls, burritos, and a bloody mary if the day is going that direction.
Steps from the gondola and the lifts, which is the entire point. Order at the counter, eat inside or on the patio watching people come down the mountain, then be on a chairlift four minutes later. Also open until 11:00 p.m., so it doubles as your apres and late-night option.
Coffee Shops in Telluride Worth Your Morning
The Coffee Cowboy
Where: 300 W San Juan Ave, Telluride (the trailer, by the gondola)
Hours: Daily, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The order: The chai. Real chai, properly spicy, not a syrup situation. Widely considered the best in town.
A converted horse trailer parked near the gondola, and one of the most beloved little businesses in Telluride. Affordable, fast, and they run a pay-it-forward program where you can buy a coffee for someone who needs one.
New to know: there is now also the Coffee Cowboy General Store at 151 S Willow St, open daily 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with actual seating, merch, and its own breakfast menu including sandwiches with gluten-free bread and wrap options. If you want to sit down with your chai rather than stand in the snow, go there.
The Telluride Company

Hours: Daily, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The order: Lattes, dirty chai, and whatever the barista suggests. Breakfast burritos available.
A newer addition and a very good one. Excellent coffee, warm room, board games, indoor and outdoor seating, and staff who make people write unusually affectionate reviews. If your morning plan is "sit somewhere nice and drink something excellent," this is the pick.

The order: Breakfast burrito, lox bagel, or pancakes with a solid espresso.
The Mountain Village morning hub, right in the core. Small and genuinely busy at peak times, so build in a few minutes of patience. The patio overlooking the mountains is worth the wait on a bluebird day.
Sit-Down Breakfast in Telluride
The Butcher & The Baker

The order: The mushroom and Swiss breakfast sandwich, or a scone from the pastry case. Gluten-free options available.
The default answer to "where should we get breakfast" for a lot of locals, and for good reason. Local and organic ingredients, homemade english muffins, serious artisan pastries, coffee and espresso, kombucha on tap, and a bar that will make you a bloody mary or mimosa without judgment. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table, the bar, or the outdoor yard, which has a playground. That last detail matters enormously if you have small children.
La Cocina de Luz
Where: 123 E Colorado Ave, Telluride

The order: Migas, the green chile cheese omelette, or whatever the daily special is. Add a fresh-pressed juice.
Organic, locally sourced Mexican that has outlasted approximately a thousand other Telluride restaurants, and is still the sentimental favorite of people who grew up here. Order at the counter, then settle in on the garden patio or inside among the local art. The daily breakfast specials are genuinely good value by Telluride standards, which is a sentence we do not get to write often.
LIZ

The order: The Vegan Hangover Cure, a tofu, sweet potato, black bean and pesto burrito that does exactly what the name promises. Avocado toast and build-your-own breakfast bowls too.
A newer spot with a relaxed, slightly bohemian room and a lot of gluten-free and plant-based options, which are otherwise thin on the ground here. The 9:00 a.m. open makes it a good choice for people whose mornings start slowly.
West End Bistro at Hotel Telluride

Hours: Breakfast daily, 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The order: Salmon avocado toast or eggs benedict.
Tucked in the lobby of Hotel Telluride on the quiet west end. Calm, comfortable, and considerably less hectic than the Colorado Avenue spots. A good option if you are staying nearby and want a real sit-down breakfast without a wait. The narrow window means you need to actually get up, though.
Weekend Brunch in Telluride
Floradora Saloon

Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. Weekdays open at 11:00 a.m., so this is a weekend brunch spot only.
The order: The blood orange mimosa, which is a Floradora exclusive and the reason half the room is here.
Forty-plus years of Telluride history in an old saloon room, with table service and a window seat that is the best people-watching perch on Main Street. Genuinely great with kids: the tables are covered in butcher paper with crayons, and the walls display the resulting masterpieces. Weekend brunch runs into the early afternoon, which is ideal for anyone whose Friday night got away from them.
New Sheridan Chop House
Where: 231 W Colorado Ave, Telluride

Hours: Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. Closed mornings Monday to Wednesday.
The order: Elegant brunch classics and a proper cocktail. This is the dress-slightly-better option.
For old-world atmosphere, nothing in Telluride beats the New Sheridan. In summer, take a sidewalk table and watch festival crowds drift past with a bellini. In winter, hang your coat, sit inside the historic room, and take your time. Reservations are wise on holiday weekends.
Dunton Kitchen at Lumière (Sunday Only)

The order: Austrian and Tyrolean influenced cooking, and a serious cocktail program.
The newest entry on this list and still relatively under the radar, which will not last. A cozy, intimate room inside the Lumière hotel with cooking that people describe in unusually enthusiastic terms. If you are in Mountain Village on a Sunday and want brunch to be an event rather than a refuel, book it.
Worth the Detour
Cindybread Artisan Bakery

The order: Breakfast sandwich on their own bread. The bread is the entire point and it is exceptional.
A short drive out to Lawson Hill and consistently one of the highest-rated food businesses in the region. Not an early-morning spot given the 9:00 a.m. open, so treat it as a late breakfast or a pre-hike stop rather than a first-chair plan. Call ahead for takeout, since there is usually a 10 to 15 minute wait either way.
Altezza at The Peaks
Where: 136 Country Club Dr, Mountain Village

The read: Floor-to-ceiling windows and some of the most dramatic views of any dining room in Colorado.
Altezza has historically run a breakfast service, but its current offering leans heavily toward dinner. Call before you plan a morning around it to confirm whether breakfast is running for your dates. Either way, the views are worth a visit at some point in your trip.
